Just one year on, celebrate, Charles Darwin’s bicentenary with Small Families in 2010 and experience first hand one of the world’s greatest natural treasures, (known by most people only via the 'Discovery Channel'). 'Memories made here will stay with you forever'. The highlight of our stay in Ecuador will be three nights spent at La Casa del Suizo, a tranquil Amazonian village located on the shores of the Napo river and close to the eastern slopes of the Andes. You will be introduced to the secrets of the tropical rain forest and how the indigenous population use plants for medicinal purposes. You will ride down river on a raft made of balsa wood and see how you get on with a real blowpipe! After all this and more, we then transfer to the Galapagos Islands staying on Santa Cruz for 2 nights where we will visit the Charles Darwin Station and also tour the bay. Then a great opportunity to try some snorkelling with the playful and cheeky Galapagos sea lions. There is a full day’s cruise to Seymour Island and the final two nights will be spent on Isabela Island. (see itinerary below)
A little History Relatively young, the Galapagos sprouted out of the Pacific from a lava vent on the ocean floor, (the same process created the Hawaiian Islands) and it continues today. The lava vent is gradually creeping east forming more islands as it moves. There are currently sixty named islands, two of the principals being Isabela and Santa Cruz.
